Engaged and connected talent, source of productivity and business innovation (Part 1)
7 november 2014. According to the Gallup report “State of the Global Workplace: Employee Engagement Insights for Business Leaders Worldwide”, based on the sustained analysis of work centers in 140 countries throughout 2011 and 2012, only 13% of employees feel engaged in their work, while 24% actively show their lack of engagement.
How can we increase engagement and connect internal talent with the company?
The situation is similar in most European countries, except for Denmark (21% engagement) and the Netherlands (9%). In the case of Spain, 16% of employees appear engaged in their companies, while a higher percentage (20%) do not show this engagement actively. According to the same study, companies in the employee engagement Top 25 display productivity, profit and client valuation that are significantly better than those at the other end of the Top 25.
Gallup goes as far as to estimate that the lack of active engagement in employees costs up to 550 Billion dollars a year in the USA, 138 Billion dollars in Germany and 72 Billion dollars in the UK. Along these lines, a research project in London Business School for the movement “Engage for success” in the UK states that “higher levels of employee engagement result in higher levels of innovation in companies” mainly due to the following 3 effects:
– Employees who feel engaged work more, and make more and better contributions.
– Employees who feel engaged search for added value in processes; they produce constant improvements, create more contacts and increase collaboration.
– Employees who feel engaged find direct opportunities for innovation, contribute innovative ideas and pursue their execution and implementation.
With all this in mind, it is key for companies to increase their employee engagement in order to raise productivity and drive innovation and the digital transformation.
In this respect, social networks in businesses connect internal talent and increase employee engagement. Also, in the case of social networks that specialize in ideas, like ideas4all Innovation Agora, they create innovation communities among employees, connecting internal talent while they improve the work environment and employee engagement and their brand identification.
